Event Insurance

You want to remember your wedding day or private outing for all the right reasons. You’ve spent months planning, thousands of dollars, and you know those memories will last a lifetime. No one expects those memories to include an unexpected accident, or worse yet, a cancelled event–but things do happen. Event Cancellation or Postponement Insurance is required for venue access and is intended to protect your financial investment if your event cannot proceed due to circumstances beyond your control. Event Liability Insurance protects against accidents, property damage, and injuries.

These providers are listed for informational purposes only. Venue does not recommend, endorse, or guarantee any specific insurance provider or policy, and clients are responsible for selecting coverage appropriate for their event and adding the venue as an Additional Insured. The providers below are set up to send us a COAI automatically.

Events at Judson Mill does not provide insurance, legal, or risk management advice. Insurance requirements and payment terms are detailed in the Event Contract and may vary based on event scope.

Insurance FAQ's

why do i need event insurance?
Event host insurance protects you from unexpected costs if something goes wrong during your event—such as property damage, injuries, or accidents. It provides peace of mind and ensures you’re covered for liabilities that could otherwise be very expensive.
Our venue requires all clients to carry event host liability insurance as part of the booking process. This helps protect both you and the venue, creating a safe and secure environment for your guests.
How much LIABILITY coverage do I need for my event?
Coverage amounts can vary based on the size and type of your event, but most venues—including ours—require at least $1 million in general liability coverage. This ensures protection against property damage or injuries that could occur during your event.

We recommend checking with your insurance provider for the best policy to meet these requirements and any optional add-ons like cancellation coverage
Do i need liquor liability coverage?
Yes. If any alcohol will be served, sold, or consumed at your event—whether it’s beer, wine, or spirits—you must have liquor liability coverage. This protects you from claims related to alcohol service, such as accidents or injuries caused by intoxicated guests.

Our venue requires liquor liability coverage whenever alcohol is present.
Do i need cancellation coverage?
Event Cancellation or Postponement Insurance is required and is intended to protect the Client’s financial investment in the event the event cannot proceed as scheduled due to circumstances beyond either party’s control.

Coverage should at minimum be sufficient to cover the total contract amount under the Event Contract.

Clients may elect to decline cancellation insurance by signing the applicable waiver, subject to payment structure requirements outlined in the Agreement.
Does event insurance cover vendors and entertainers?
In most cases, your event insurance policy only covers you—the event host—and your liability for the venue. Vendors and entertainers typically need their own insurance policies to cover their equipment, staff, and services.
We recommend confirming with each vendor or performer that they carry liability insurance. This helps protect everyone involved and ensures compliance with our venue requirements.
what does event insurance not cover?
Event insurance is designed to protect against common risks, but it doesn’t cover everything. Most policies do not cover:
  • Intentional acts or negligence (e.g., damage caused on purpose)
  • Illegal activities during the event
  • Normal wear and tear to the venue or rented items
  • High-risk activities not disclosed to the insurer (e.g., fireworks, extreme sports)
  • Pandemics or communicable diseases (unless specifically included)
  • Vendor non-performance (e.g., if a caterer fails to show up)
  • Unapproved alcohol service without liquor liability coverage
Always review your policy details carefully to understand exclusions and consider add-ons for extra protection.
how far in advance do i need to buy it?
We request that you purchase your policy within 10 days of reserving the venue. Most policies allow you to buy coverage up to a year in advance, and some require it at least 30 days before the event.

Buying early ensures you’re protected from unexpected cancellations or issues that could arise well before the big day. Plus, it gives you time to add any optional coverage like liquor liability or cancellation protection.
If the venue and my vendors have insurance, why do I need it?
Even if your venue and vendors carry their own insurance, their policies only protect their business interests—not yours. If an accident occurs and you’re found liable, you could still face significant financial responsibility.
Event host insurance ensures you are covered for your own liability, including property damage, injuries, or alcohol-related incidents. It also provides peace of mind and fulfills our venue requirement for all clients to carry event liability coverage.
