A Simple Guide to Tipping Your Wedding Vendors
Tipping your wedding vendors is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for their hard work in making your big day seamless and memorable. While tipping isn’t always required, it’s customary in many cases. This guide breaks down who to tip, how much to give, and when to do it, so you can express gratitude without stress.
1. Who Should You Tip?
Not all wedding vendors expect gratuities, but here are common professionals to consider tipping:
  • Hair & Makeup Artists: Typically 15-25% of the service total.
  • Catering Staff & Servers: $20–$50 per server; 15–20% for overall catering bill (if not already included).
  • Bartenders: 10–20% of the bar bill or $25–$50 per bartender.
  • Wedding Planner: Not required, but a $100–$500 tip or a small gift is appreciated.
  • Photographers & Videographers: If they own their business, tipping isn’t expected; otherwise, $50–$200 per assistant.
  • Officiant: $50–$100, especially for religious or independent officiants.
  • Musicians & DJs: $50–$150 per musician; $100–$300 for DJs.
  • Drivers & Transportation Crew: 10–20% of the total cost.
  • Delivery Staff (flowers, rentals, cake, etc.): $10–$20 per person.

2. When & How to Tip Vendors
  • Before the wedding: Some vendors (like hair stylists) can be tipped after their service on the day.
  • At the reception: Assign a trusted person (planner, best man, or family member) to distribute tips.
  • Post-wedding: If you forgot, sending a tip with a thank-you note after the event is just as meaningful.
3. Alternative Ways to Show Appreciation
If tipping isn't in your budget, consider:
  • Personalized thank-you notes expressing gratitude for their exceptional work.
  • Positive online reviews to help their business grow.
  • A small gift or referral to future clients.
Final Thoughts
Tipping wedding vendors is a simple yet powerful way to acknowledge their dedication to making your day special. By planning ahead and following these guidelines, you’ll ensure that those who help create your dream wedding feel valued and appreciated.
